Gold guinea coins produced by the mint are adulterated, a serious offence: treason. The punishment for treason is a long jail sentence, even hanging.

In the year 1701, Isaac Newton, famous scientist and Master of the Mint, stands in the dock. Although innocent of adulterating the coins, he is responsible. Newton’s control of coin production is strict, the adulteration mystifies him, the trial humiliates him. His pride is shattered. Granted one month to identify the culprits, he is determined to use his genius to uncover how the coins are being adulterated and the mastermind behind it.

Newton has sent many adulterers to be hanged from the gallows at Tyburn – if he fails to identify the culprits, will it now be Newton’s turn to swing?
